How much Poka reads
B4 Summary. The container and metadata are read and summarised (counts, properties, structure), but the main content is not rendered.
Confidence: medium (the reviewer read the code). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-26: read parsers/poka-xex/src/main.rs (478 lines) and plugin.json. Five unit tests cover a minimal XEX2, non-XEX input, a truncated header, the XEX1 variant and the size-cap note; the corpus has no .xex sample. Covers .xex. The card reads the XEX2 header and optional headers: module flags, offsets, original PE name, entry point, image base, base file size, image size, stack and heap sizes, certificate image flags, system flags, media ID, allowed media, game regions and title IDs. Judgement: B4: the container headers are decoded; the image itself is encrypted and compressed and is not read.
What Poka does not read
- The PE image is not decrypted or decompressed (by design)
- Import libraries are not listed
- XEX1 files show minimal information only
- The signature is not verified
Libraries
Libraries Poka uses or has assessed for this format, with the status, licence and language the registry records.
- XboxToolkit (reference; GPL-3.0-only; C#/.NET; https://www.nuget.org/packages/XboxToolkit) — copyleft; Extracts XEX metadata and decrypts retail/devkit XEX; repo https://github.com/Team-Resurgent/XboxToolkit.
- xbox-reversing (emoose) (candidate; BSD-3-Clause; Python; https://github.com/emoose/xbox-reversing) — IDA Python XEX loader, not a standalone library; uncompressed XEX only, needs Python 2.7 and PyCrypto; development stopped, author points to a native idaxex successor.
