How much Poka reads
B2 Broad. The common content of the current and the common older versions is decoded. Some named features or versions are not, and are listed.
Confidence: medium (the reviewer read the code). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-26: read parsers/poka-passwd/src/main.rs (155 lines) and plugin.json. No unit tests or tests/samples.rs; the corpus has no .passwd and .etc-passwd sample. Covers .passwd and .etc-passwd. The table lists every account with user, UID, GID, GECOS, home and shell, with account, system-account and shell counts; the password field is not shown. Judgement: B2: every entry is shown; the gaps are limits, redaction by design and fields left raw.
What Poka does not read
- The password field is not shown (by design; real hashes live in /etc/shadow)
- Comments are skipped
- Only the first 1,000 accounts are listed; files over 256 KiB are cut (flagged)
Libraries
Libraries Poka uses or has assessed for this format, with the status, licence and language the registry records.
- pgs-files (candidate; MIT OR Apache-2.0; Rust; https://docs.rs/crate/pgs-files/latest) — Reads /etc/{passwd,group,shadow}; last release v0.0.7 (Jan 2017), so effectively unmaintained; format is trivial to hand-parse
