How much Poka reads

B1 Complete. Everything the format defines that a reader would see is decoded, in every version Poka claims. Anything not decoded is immaterial and listed.

Confidence: high (the reviewer read the code and a test that proves the claim). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-16: parsers/poka-mdd/src/lib.rs, tests/samples.rs and scaling.rs; corpus oracle_1zone.mdd (real IDF style, EnergyPlus 26.2) and regular-style-from-oracle_1zone.mdd (re-encoded by the project, not real engine output). Both styles are read and the Output:Meter and Output:Meter:Cumulative pairs are folded.

What Poka does not read

  • The reporting frequency in the IDF-style object (the default hourly) is not shown
  • The regular-style reporting timestep column (Zone or HVAC) is not shown

Background

The EnergyPlus documentation describes the MDD as the list of report meters with their availability for a run. The Output:VariableDictionary object chooses one of two styles: IDF style, ready to paste into an input file, or a regular table. Poka reads both. In IDF style each meter is listed twice, once as Output:Meter and once as Output:Meter:Cumulative; the two are folded into one row with a flag, so meters are not counted twice.
