How much Poka reads

B4 Summary. The container and metadata are read and summarised (counts, properties, structure), but the main content is not rendered.

Confidence: medium (the reviewer read the code). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-26: read parsers/poka-sfc/src/main.rs (467 lines) and plugin.json. No unit tests or tests/samples.rs; the corpus has sample.sfc (32 KiB, starting with zeros) but no test reads it. Covers .sfc. The tree strips a copier header if present, scores the LoROM, HiROM and ExHiROM positions, and shows title, mapping with FastROM or SlowROM, cartridge type with coprocessor (about 25 types named), declared and actual ROM size, SRAM size, region with video standard, licensee (named), version and the checksum and complement check. If no header scores, it says so instead of failing. Judgement: B4 rather than B5, because the whole header is decoded and checked; nothing of the ROM content (code, graphics, sound) is.

What Poka does not read

  • ROM content is not decoded: no code, graphics or sound
  • The checksum is not recomputed over the ROM
  • The extended header (maker code, game code, expansion RAM) is not read
  • Files over 96 MiB are cut without a flag
