B2 Broad. The common content of the current and the common older versions is decoded. Some named features or versions are not, and are listed.

Confidence: high (the reviewer read the code and a test that proves the claim). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-16: parsers/poka-err/src/lib.rs, tests/samples.rs, tests/continuations.rs and unit tests; corpus modeltok-pthp-eplusout.err (EnergyPlus 25.1) plus the crate's two real EnergyPlus 25.1/26.1 logs; AutoCAD crash logs covered by synthetic fixtures only (real ones removed). Covers both producers: EnergyPlus run log and AutoCAD crash record (English and Windows-1250 Polish).

What Poka does not read

  • EnergyPlus: progress banners and run-phase context (which warnings came during warmup, sizing or simulation) are dropped; diagnostics are grouped across the whole run
  • EnergyPlus: Final Error Summary categories, unused object/schedule counts and Key=/VarName= output-request lines are skipped
  • EnergyPlus: occurrence order and line position of each warning are lost (identical messages are folded into a count)
  • EnergyPlus: only English marker text is recognised; other severities show as Info
  • AutoCAD: only the fixed crash-record layout is read; other lines are listed raw as extra

Background

The EnergyPlus documentation says all the warnings and errors of a run appear in this file. Each diagnostic is a ** Warning **, ** Severe ** or ** Fatal ** line, possibly followed by continuation lines, and the closing lines give the run's verdict and totals. AutoCAD writes its .err file when the application crashes, naming the drawing that was open. Poka tells the two apart by content. For EnergyPlus it keeps each continuation line with the diagnostic written directly above it — including one that repeats an earlier message, whose continuations stay with that entry — groups the diagnostics by severity and shows the summary; for AutoCAD it shows the crash record.
