How much Poka reads
B4 Summary. The container and metadata are read and summarised (counts, properties, structure), but the main content is not rendered.
Confidence: medium (the reviewer read the code). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-26: read parsers/poka-hprof/src/main.rs (395 lines) and plugin.json. No unit tests or tests/samples.rs; the corpus has heapdump-1588683591989.hprof, read by no test. Covers .hprof. The tree reads the header (format, identifier size, capture time) and walks the top-level records, counting them by tag, summing heap-dump sizes and resolving a bounded number of class names. Judgement: B4: the dump's records are summarised, but the heap contents are not decoded.
What Poka does not read
- Heap-dump segments are not decoded: no instances, arrays or GC roots
- Object counts and sizes per class are not computed
- Stack traces and threads are counted, not shown
- Only a bounded number of class names is resolved
Libraries
Libraries Poka uses or has assessed for this format, with the status, licence and language the registry records.
- hprof-slurp (candidate; Apache-2.0; Rust; https://github.com/agourlay/hprof-slurp) — Streaming JVM/Android heap dump analyser, mainly a CLI; reads JAVA PROFILE 1.0.1 to 1.0.3.
- jvm-hprof (candidate; licence unconfirmed; Rust; https://docs.rs/jvm-hprof) — Library for parsing hprof files (parse_hprof); the docs.rs page does not state a licence.
- google/hprof-parser (candidate; Apache-2.0; Go; https://github.com/google/hprof-parser) — Parses JVM .hprof dumps; author states it handles only the record types in the dumps they had.
- scrump-format-hprof (candidate; Apache-2.0; Rust; https://github.com/avifenesh/scrump) — Java HPROF heap dump handler for scrump.; v0.1.8, updated 2026-05-20; matched on lib.rs, not tested
