How much Poka reads
B2 Broad. The common content of the current and the common older versions is decoded. Some named features or versions are not, and are listed.
Confidence: medium (the reviewer read the code). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-26: read parsers/poka-asd/src/main.rs (699 lines, a tolerant S-expression tokeniser and parser) and plugin.json. No unit tests or tests/samples.rs; the corpus has cl-ppcre.asd but no test reads it. Covers .asd. Every defsystem form (also asdf:defsystem, at any depth) becomes a tree node with version, author, licence, description, homepage and maintainer, the :depends-on list (including :version and :feature wrappers) and the :components tree of modules, files and static files.
What Poka does not read
- Other defsystem options are not shown: :serial, :pathname, :in-order-to, :perform, :defsystem-depends-on, :class, :long-description, :bug-tracker, :source-control and the like
- Per-component :depends-on and component options are not shown
- Reader conditionals (#+ and #-) are not evaluated, so feature-dependent entries are shown as plain symbols
- Computed values such as (:read-file-form "version.sexp") are shown as the form's head, not read
- Other top-level forms in the file (defpackage, defmethod) are ignored
- Files over 16 MiB are cut without a flag; caps of 100 dependencies and 300 components per system, 6 module levels and 3,000 nodes
Libraries
Libraries Poka uses or has assessed for this format, with the status, licence and language the registry records.
- ASDF (candidate; MIT; Common Lisp; https://asdf.common-lisp.dev/) — The standard build facility that reads .asd files; page states an MIT-style licence. Not a standalone parser library.
