At a glance

Breadth tier B4 Summary (see Breadth tiers)

How much Poka reads

B4 Summary. The container and metadata are read and summarised (counts, properties, structure), but the main content is not rendered.

Confidence: high (the reviewer read the code and a test that proves the claim). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-16: read parsers/poka-isproj/src/lib.rs (SQLite header, sqlite_master walk, row counting, ProjectVersion and DBVersion rows) and tests/samples.rs, corpus sample sample.isproj (8 MB, UTF-8). Covers InstalSystem 5 projects stored as SQLite 3. Output is a schema, row counts and versions, with no project objects decoded.

What Poka does not read

  • Project objects (StorageObject rows and the object graph)
  • Blob payloads (BlobField, LSDictionaryBlob)
  • Localised strings (LSDictionaryString)
  • KeyTable contents
  • Table rows other than ProjectVersion and DBVersion
  • Meaning of the version table columns (shown raw)
  • Write-ahead log contents (the -wal file is not read)
  • UTF-16 databases (text is decoded as UTF-8 regardless of the header encoding)
  • Row counts are capped at 64 tables and 10000 pages

Background

InstalSoft's InstalSystem 5 keeps a whole project, with its object graph, binary payloads and version history, in a few SQLite tables. Poka reads the SQLite format directly rather than linking a database engine, and shows the schema, the row counts and the InstalSystem and schema versions recorded in the file, which decide whether another installation can open it.

Versions

Version Identifier Poka Note
InstalSystem 5 project SQLite format 3\0 Partly read Schema, row counts and versions; the project objects are not decoded. Text is decoded as UTF-8 whatever the database encoding says.

Software that uses it
