How much Poka reads

B3 Core. Only the main content type or types are decoded (for example geometry but not materials, layers or annotations, or only one version family). The list of gaps is substantial.

Confidence: medium (the reviewer read the code). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-16: parsers/poka-ott/src/lib.rs (meta.xml fields and statistics, package listing, mimetype conformance, thumbnail, and body text via poka_odt::extract_paragraphs), its unit tests, and tests/samples.rs over the 4 corpus .ott files (10grey, 00-10grey, ott_textTestTemplate, stl-default). Body coverage is exactly poka-odt's, so it shares that crate's limits; the extra material is metadata, statistics and the thumbnail. Covers ODF text templates, 1.x.

What Poka does not read

  • Same body gaps as ODT: formatting, pictures, table structure, list structure, headers and footers, footnotes and comments not marked as such, tracked insertions
  • Template placeholders, fields and styles are not shown as such
  • Content tree is capped at 4000 nodes
  • Layout of the template (page size, columns, sections)
  • Encrypted packages

Background

The Library of Congress page for ODT says the .ott extension is used for a text document used as a template, with the media type application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text-template. The module documentation counts 11 of 27 .ott files that declare the plain document media type, so the distinction is not kept; only 4 .ott files remain in the corpus, because private files were removed. Poka therefore shows both the extension's claim and the package's, and flags a disagreement. The preview is a tree with a Content section of body paragraphs first, then the metadata from meta.xml (title, author, dates, page and word counts), the package layout, and whether the mimetype entry is stored first and uncompressed as the specification requires.

Versions

Version Identifier Poka Note
ODF text template application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text-template Read Read as a package tree with a Content section of body paragraphs; poka-ott now shows the prose itself.
