How much Poka reads
B2 Broad. The common content of the current and the common older versions is decoded. Some named features or versions are not, and are listed.
Confidence: medium (the reviewer read the code). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-16: parsers/poka-cin/src/lib.rs and tests/samples.rs, with one corpus sample (oiio-images_checker.cin) rendering. Covers Cineon V4.5, either byte order. The 10-bit three-channel RGB layout is the only pixel layout decoded; the generic header, image information, colorimetry and label are shown.
What Poka does not read
- any layout other than 3-channel 10-bit (8-, 12- and 16-bit, single-channel, 4-channel: header facts only)
- data interleave, packing and sign fields are not read; pixel-interleaved, filled-method-A data is assumed
- film information header (film manufacturer, key code, frame rate, slate) is not shown
- no log-to-linear conversion; a linear stretch is applied for display
- orientation is displayed but not applied
- Id Software CIN video is refused with a message
Background
Wikipedia says the Cineon system, a film scanner, film recorder and workstation software, was created by Kodak in the early 1990s and first released in September 1992. The image crate has no Cineon support, so Poka decodes the first three-channel 10-bit RGB image itself and shows it as a PNG; the header's creation date, time and other facts are listed beside it.
Versions
| Version | Identifier | Poka | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cineon 4.5 | 80 2A 5F D7, version V4.5 |
Partly read | The first three-channel 10-bit RGB image; a byte-swapped magic is read as little-endian. |
Derived and related formats
- SMPTE DPX (
.dpx): Derived from Cineon (Library of Congress, quoting Wikipedia); has its own row in FILE_FORMATS.csv.
Libraries
Libraries Poka uses or has assessed for this format, with the status, licence and language the registry records.
- image (used; MIT OR Apache-2.0; Rust)
- png (used; MIT OR Apache-2.0; Rust)
- OpenImageIO (candidate; Apache-2.0; C++; https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenImageIO) — Page lists Cineon among its I/O plugins; read versus write support not stated there. Python bindings available. No Rust Cineon reader found.
