How much Poka reads

B3 Core. Only the main content type or types are decoded (for example geometry but not materials, layers or annotations, or only one version family). The list of gaps is substantial.

Confidence: medium (the reviewer read the code). Basis: Reviewed 2026-10-16: poka-dck src/lib.rs (parse_deck, build_ast, 15+ unit tests) and tests/samples.rs; corpus has one deck, web-bld_hvac.dck (78 lines, 2 units, no ASSIGN and no Type 56), so most branches are covered by unit tests only. Read: control cards (SIMULATION resolved through constants and equations, TOLERANCES, LIMITS, DFQ, SOLVER, EQSOLVER, WIDTH), units with type and proforma, input wiring in both directions, dangling-wire check, constants, equations and external files.

What Poka does not read

  • unit PARAMETERS are parsed but only counted ('N value(s)'); the values are not shown
  • initial input values (the lines after INITIAL INPUT VALUES) are skipped

  • most control cards beyond the listed few (TRACE, LIST, NAN_CHECK, OVERWRITE_CHECK, TIME_REPORT and similar) are collected but not shown
  • units beyond the first 100 and inputs beyond 100 per unit are not listed
  • references to building descriptions (Type 56 to .b18) and to weather files are not resolved or linked
  • ASSIGN and DESIGNATE lines are shown but have never been tested against a real deck
  • canvas position and layer from the Studio comments are partly read and not shown

Background

Each component is a UNIT, an instance of a TYPE (Type 56 is the multizone building, Type 15 the weather reader), and the simulation is what happens when their outputs are connected to each other's inputs. Poka shows each unit with its type, the number of its parameters (the values are not shown) and its inputs, and names the source of every input connection. The initial input values are skipped.
